Lt. Colonel John T. Lindsay, Sr. USAF Retired, of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on July 13, 2017 at Superior Residences of Niceville. An inurnment service with military honors will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 1:30 pm.
Col. Lindsay was born August 20, 1927 in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Winston S. Lindsay and Marjorie L. Harris. He later attended VMI (Virginia Military Institute) and earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Ohio State University and a Masters from George Washington University. He was a command pilot and commanded the Guns and Rocket Division at the Air Force Armament Laboratory at Eglin AFB, FL. His career spanned several overseas assignments including a year in Vietnam. He was awarded numerous commendations.
Since he was a young boy, he collected civil war weapons and bought and sold both antique and modern firearms. He enjoyed sailing and wind surfing. He was a member FWB Yacht Club, Commodore of the Eglin Yacht Club and Commander of the Fort Walton Sail and Power Squadron.
He is survived by his loving wife Virginia B. Lindsay of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, his children John T. Lindsay, Jr. of Castle Rock, CO, Linda L. Vickery and her husband Greg of Woodbridge, VA, and David S. Lindsay of Fredericksburg, VA, and Mrs. Lindsay's children, Deborah Stone of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Marcus W. Stone and his wife Deborah of Shalimar, FL, and Virginia L. Stone of Ft. Walton Beach. They shared a son, Christopher A. Lindsay of Navarre, FL.
