Kenneth Mason Bolton, age 87, died peacefully on August 7, 2017 after an extended struggle with ALS with his beloved partner of over 30 years, Rebecca Westra by his side. He passed in the comfort of his own home in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Ken was born in Atmore, Alabama on July 2, 1930 to John and Salome Bolton. He entered into the United States Navy active service on June 26, 1947 as a Navy medic associated with the Marine Corps at the age of 17 in Seattle, Washington. He served in the Korean War from June 26, 1950 to October 26, 1952 as part of the Marine division after his basic training at Camp Lejeune. He left the service on June 25, 1956. Prior to his deployment he married Lillian Cecilia Tabshey. He attended the University of Hartford where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Drafting while moonlighting as a Connecticut State Patrol Officer. He began his professional career with Chandler-Evans/Colt before moving to Florida in 1977. After a short period with Colt, he was hired by Keltec as an engineer and marketing executive for military electronics. He had many talents including exemplary cooking skills, blueprint drafting and a legendary green thumb. Among those that were close to him his strong sense of family, great sense of humor, quiet and gentle manner and his selfless kindness were well known.
Ken is survived by his son, Kenneth Jr. and wife, Elizabeth and their children, Hannah and John Thomas; daughter, Kathleen Ann Kaminsky and husband, Edward and their children, Julianne, Jennifer and Michael Paul; daughter, Joyce Ann Russell and husband, William and their children, Ashley, Michael, Timothy and Jeffrey; daughter, Jeanne Ann Bru and husband, Joseph and their children, Jessica, Meagan, Dylan; three sisters, Louise, Gloria and Dorothy; eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his constant companion and devoted partner of thirty three years, Becky Westra and her son, Jason Westra and his wife, Catherine and children, Aidan and Simone.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn; brother, Quenton; parents; and stepmother, Nettie.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Saint Simon's on the Sound in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Interment will follow at Brooks Memorial Cemetery.
Flowers will be accepted.
