Ruth Leona Coltart, 84, of Fort Walton Beach, passed away on 4 November. She was born in Whiteville, TN to Rev. Harry H. Newsom and Lexie Opal Flatt Newsom, and eventually retired to the beautiful Emerald Coast after 36 years as a US Civil Service Logistics Manager at Eglin AFB. Ruth was active in various church choirs and even recorded songs with Moon Records in Memphis. Ruth was also a life member of Toastmistress, now called International Training in Communication (ITC), and was a regional president for the Sunshine Region. She was previously associated with the Order of the Eastern Star in Memphis.
Ruth's life was about following her passion. Her sonorous laughter enabled her to brighten up the darkest day for those who knew her. Family and friends were important to Ruth, and she will truly be missed. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother, Harry Harvey Newsom Jr. She is survived by her companion and close friend, Val Lyons, her daughter, Diane Walbeck, Son-in-law David Walbeck, two grandchildren, Kyle and Jessica Walbeck, and her younger brother, Richard Newsom.
A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at 3:00pm on Wednesday, 15 November at Saint Simons on the Sound in Fort Walton Beach.
