Stephen Wayne Dettle Age 65 of Fort Walton Beach Florida passed from this earth after a week in ICU at Fort Walton Medical Center on Sunday November 5th, 2017. Stephen was born to Leo Comile Dettle and Antoinette Marie Dettle and was raised on Okaloosa Island with his siblings. The family home where he resided and was built by his parents was the 13th home built on "The Island" as it was called then. He was a loving son, brother and friend to many over his years in the Fort Walton Beach Area.
Stephen went through school in Fort Walton Beach and then graduated from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. He then returned to Florida and attended Santa Fe College in Gainesville where he received his AA degree. He then moved back to Fort Walton Beach and helped form a jewelry business, Nature's Pieces Jewelry, with his brother Jim. Several years later he changed occupations and studied electronics and repaired office equipment. His most recent job was as a cab driver for Yellow Cab in the area. He loved meeting new people and getting their stories. He was also an expert in knowing where to get any kind of cuisine. Stephen loved to paint as a young man and loved collecting and flying kites. He was also a music enthusiast and loved telling good jokes that were sometimes safe or a little off color.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents as well as his sister Eloise Marie Bradford. He is survived by his sister Jody Diane Milton and husband Robert C. Milton of Warren Arkansas; Brother James Dettle and wife Kim Dettle of Destin, Florida; Sister Deborah Hall and husband Robert Hall of Memphis Tennessee, brother in law Charles Bradford of Grant, Florida, nephews and nieces: Robert C. Milton Jr and wife Kim, Michael Milton and wife Tina, Jim Bradford, Eric Bradford and wife Pam, Jameson Dettle, Kristin Dettle Humphrey and husband Sean; grand- nephews and grand-nieces: Tori Milton, Brandy Milton, Landon Milton, Lily Bradford, Jackson Bradford and Graham Bradford. Also his sweet dog, Paco.
There will be a memorial and celebration of life on Tuesday November 28th at Gulf Cemetery, S County Hwy 393, Santa Rosa Beach, FL at 12 pm where his mother and sister were laid to rest. May God Bless his Soul. Expressions of love and sympathy can be viewed or submitted online at
